Gosia Cooks for Christmas: Yeast star with poppy seeds
Traditionally, the poppy seed cake cannot be missed on the Christmas Eve table. Why not try to bake it a little differently? Yeast cake with poppy seeds in the shape of a Christmas star is a baking that will decorate the table, delight with the taste and smell of all household members.
- 1/2 kg of wheat flour
- 30 g of fresh yeast
- 50 g of sugar
- 180 g of milk
- 2 eggs
- 50 g of butter
- 600 g of ready-made poppy seed mass with dried fruits
- 1 egg + a tablespoon of milk for brushing the dough
- Prepare the leaven: 3 tablespoons of flour, yeast, sugar and a few tablespoons of warm milk, mix and set aside in a warm place.
Pour flour into a bowl, add warm milk, melted warm butter, eggs and leavened yeast.
We knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a cloth and leave it for about 1 hour.
- Place the risen dough on the floured worktop. We form a ball and divide it into 4 parts.
Roll out the first piece of dough into a circle with a diameter of about 25 cm. We put it on a large baking sheet lined with baking paper and spread 1/3 of the poppy seed mass on it, leaving about 1 cm of the free edge.
Then we roll out the second piece of dough and put it on the first cake.
Brush with poppy seeds again and put the rolled-out third piece of dough, brush with the rest of the mixture and cover with the last disc.
- Cut the dough into 16 parts, not cutting to the very center.
Each piece is twisted twice, in pairs, i.e. one piece is twisted twice to the right, the other two times to the left. Stick the twisted pieces together at the end.
Cover the dough prepared in this way with a cloth and set aside for 30 minutes.
- Before baking, grease the dough with the egg, beaten with milk.
Bake the star for 25 minutes at 180 ° C.
